Wedding Photojournalism

I am not a "wedding photographer", but I would like to be! Would you give an aspiring photographer the opportunity to shoot your special day for little or (strong emphasis on) nothing? If so please read more!

making people look good!

Congratulations on your big day and Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedules to stop by! my name is Darryl and I am a Oakland, CA based photographer. Currently I shoot mostly heads shots, events and portraiture in addition to some freelance work with local newspapers and have been shooting for over 10 years.

I am now looking to expand into wedding photography, only one problem, I do not have a portfolio to submit to potential couples! This is where you come in! A Documentary wedding photographer should be all about telling a story.  It’s about weaving the images together to tell the tale of your special day. Will you allow me to capture it?

This genre of photography has a few different names; wedding photojournalism, documentary wedding photography and reportage wedding photography. There isn't any discernible difference between the three names generally, apart from, perhaps, what the bridal magazines see as the fashionable way to describe natural, story telling wedding photography. Candid, unposed.

Being as though I do not have a portfolio of wedding shots to submit I would be more than willing to shoot my first 3 weddings for free or as a secondary shooter. And if you like the photos you can keep them!

I am a documentary styled photographer that photographs honestly, without any reliance on filters, bulky lighting systems or assistants. You’ll probably not even notice I was there.

Easy right?

A Night WIth Friends - Fuji X100F

"U.U.U" Unscripted, Unobtrusive, unposed

My Style follows the three U's (see above) I shoot in a candid photojournalistic style. My cameras are fairly compact but consistent.  I shoot with FujiFilm mirrorless cameras, these cameras allow me to get in close to get those photos which would be impossible to capture with my DSLR system.  If I am the only shooter, we can definitely get some organized shots in, but ideally I would like to start off as the second shooter, this will allow me to capture those special candid moments. I will work with the couple from the day I am booked and well beyond delivery. I am looking to build working relationships with the people I photograph.

I shoot in black in white but I can and will process color on demand.

I am actually passionate about photographing everything I see authentically, without any interaction at all.

If your idea of “wedding hell” is the traditional bossy photographer and massive amounts of staged, boring group shots then I think I may have just the thing for you. Please contact m! the first 3 too book before January and I will shoot your wedding for free. Just pay me for processing time which is no real monetary profit for me. Contact me for details!
